Here are ten ways to know you need a break, and it's time to get some rest and relaxation.
1. You don't find enjoyment in things you normally love. For example, if you love to go dancing on Saturdays or sing karaoke on Fridays, but you just have no desire to do this, you may be burnt out.
2. You see the bad in people instead of the good. Usually, you think your friends and family are wonderful, but not recently. Everything they do makes you mad, and you can't think of anything nice to say to them.
3. People are commenting on your rudeness or abruptness. Others will see the signs before you do. If someone is telling you that you have an attitude or you aren't being nice, this is a sure sign you're in need of some time to yourself.
4. You get sick every other week. When you start to burn out, your immune system is always on the defense. If you're getting a cold or virus every other week, you really need to rest and let your body recover.
5. You have no energy. It used to be you would bounce out of bed in the mornings. Now, even the coffee can't wake you up.
6. Your concentration is suffering. You find it hard to pay attention and get any work done. This is a sure sign you need a mental or physical vacation.
7. You slack on things. You used to be a perfectionist, but now you just want to get the minimum work done and get out of the office for the day. Your house is nowhere near being cleaned, and the dishes are piled up in the sink. Hm, think you're overdoing it? Looks to be so.
8. You are forgetful. You never used to forget things, but now, if you don't have a yellow sticky on the refrigerator reminding you of Saturday's events, they probably won't happen.
9. You have trouble eating or you feel sick on your stomach. One sign of burnout is the inability to relax. You've been going hard for so long that your body is constantly in overdrive. Of course this will make your stomach feel queasy a good bit of the time.
10. It's hard to fall asleep at night.
If you are experiencing these warning signs, it is due time to get some rest and relaxation. This could be as simple as one weekend of just sitting in front of the television and doing nothing, or going to the beach and sitting watching the waves crash all day. Just don't think about anything, and let your mind and body unwind for as much time as you can.
