Teresa Hoyt
Plastic bags may go the way of the dinosaurs soon, but not every plastic bag needs to be a drain on the environment. There are many ways to use a plastic bag that allow them to be recycled, reused and repurposed for a good reason. If you find yourself with a few plastic bags, don't panic. Here are some creative ways to use a plastic bag.

1. Reuse them for their intended purpose. In most cases the plastic bag that comes home with you can carry things again and again to work, school or on a trip. A few bags may come in handy.

2. Trash Can Liners. Use a Plastic Bag to line small trash cans in your bedroom, bathroom or office. You can save the cost and the materials involved in purchasing trash can liners.

3. Use a plastic bag when you scoop the Litter Box. Use a plastic bag to change the cat litter box. This is one plastic bag you won't use again.

4. Use a plastic bag when you need a rubber glove but don't have one available. Use a plastic bag as a glove for any messy chore.

5. Save plastic bags for your garage sale or flea market customers. Check with your local food pantry to see if they can use your extra plastic bags for distributing food items. See if your local thrift shop uses recycled bags.

6. Use a plastic bag as informal wrapping paper. My husband and I often conceal gifts in store plastic bags. It does the job.

7. Use a plastic bag to wrap glassware and other fragile items before storing or shipping. Use wadded up plastic bags as inexpensive packing material. Instead of buying Styrofoam, use what you have on hand.

8. In a pinch, you can use plastic bags doubled up to make an ice pack.

9. Use a plastic bag to make knee pads for gardening or other dirty chores. Tie plastic bags around your knees to keep your knees dirt free.

10. Use a plastic bag to scoop the poop. Plastic Bags are perfect for scooping up the dog doo when you are out on a walk. Don't leave home without them. Offer extras to your local shelter or dog park.

There are hundreds of other ways to use a plastic bag and you can probably come up with some creative ones of your own. Give each bag at least one more chance to serve a purpose.
