Ten Years of School Shootings

T CarpeD
It is time that we take a look at the facts - not just look at each shooting individually, but take at all of shootings that have occurred just in the last 10 years in the United States.

April 2007: A gunman shoots 33 people at the campus of Virginia Tech University in Virginia.

October 2006: A 32-year-old gunman shoots dead at least five girls at an Amish school in Pennsylvania, before killing himself

September 2006: Gunman in Colorado shoots and fatally wounds a teenage schoolgirl, then kills himself; two days later a teenager kills the head teacher of a school in Cazenovia, Wisconsin

November 2005: Student in Tennessee shoots dead an assistant principal and wounds two other administrators

March 2005: Minnesota schoolboy kills nine, then shoots himself

May 2004: Four people injured in shooting at a school in Maryland

April 2003: Teenager shoots dead head-teacher at a Pennsylvania school, then kills himself

March 2001: Pupil opens fire at a school in California, killing two students

February 2000: Six-year-old girl shot dead by classmate in Michigan

November 1999: Thirteen-year-old girl shot dead by a classmate in New Mexico

May 1999: Student injures six pupils in shoot-out in Georgia

April 1999: Two teenagers shoot dead 12 students and a teacher before killing themselves at Columbine School in Colorado

June 1998: Two adults hurt in shooting by teenage student at high school in Virginia

May 1998: Fifteen-year-old boy shoots himself in the head after taking a girl hostage

May 1998: Fifteen-year-old shoots dead two students in school cafeteria in Oregon

April 1998: Fourteen-year-old shoots dead a teacher and wounds two students in Pennsylvania

March 1998: Two boys, 11 and 13, kill four girls and a teacher in Arkansas

December 1997: Fourteen-year-old boy kills three students in Kentucky

October 1997: Sixteen-year-old boy stabs mother, then shoots dead two students at school in Mississippi, injuring several others

If this does not make you think and wonder, nothing will. What were all of these people thinking? What made them do what they did? What is the connection between all of these people, other than the fact that they have killed people in schools? Haven't these questions been asked every time a school shooting has happened, if you take a look around something is not being done to stop these from occurring so things need to change, and they need to change fast.

It was once mentioned that maybe the people that are the shooters craved the attention of the media, they feel that they will not ever turn out to be anything so they go out in a blaze of glory to speak (that is what they would feel like). In fact when I googled school killers to see what I could find for this article I was amazed to find a collection of pictures biographies and such on each and every killer. Was this what they were wanting, 15 minutes of fame and then the spotlight for the rest of their lives? I have to admit maybe a name like Jamie Rouse, might not stand out for any reason if you said his name say 15 years ago, but now when you say school killer or Jamie Rouse you know who they are talking about.

The media blames the video game industry and the video game industry blames the Internet. Talk about passing the buck here, it is just a vicious circle. The truth of the matter is that no one knows what is really influencing these people to do things, it's just a little hard to ask the person that yesterday shot and killed 33 people what made me think about doing that. That is what we are scared of, everyone likes pointing the finger, but when it comes down to just plain not knowing, well no one is going to have anything to do with that, the police, media, game industry or even the Internet.

The issue is that if we don't' find out and find out soon what is making these people kill in schools this may be an epidemic like some people are already calling it. If the trend continues and nothing is done who knows how many more school shooting could occur before someone finally does something 100's or maybe even 1,000's. That is scary we search daily to find cures for ailment diseases and conditions, yet we can still not control ourselves, kind of ironic isn't it?

What did these killers have in common ?

    Were they on Ritalin ?

Were they into the occult ?

This is important because Christians seek out the damaged and the sick so that they can help that person get back on track. A worldly person does not care about that and they often ignore the cries for help.

I am sorry if this sounds bland because this is not meant to be bland, but I figured that society would come down to this sooner or later. I say this because, the more they remove God from society, the less people care about others. Christian or not, it is undeniable that when there is a society based off of following God's moral law, then things often go better for everyone. IT is important to realize that God's summation of the law was to love God with all of your heart, and love your neighbor as you would love yourself. These foundations are leaving America. The more distant America gets from morality, then the more distant we will get from safety, security, good neighbors, and so much more. For example, if a Christian that feared God saw a man beaten on the ground, it would be almost an obligation to help that man. A person without god will first ask three questions: is it beneficial to me, should I be nice today since I don't have to be, or why should I care? This is impor

DON'T YOU THINK WE NEED GOD BACK IN SCHOOLS? WE NEVER HEAR ANYTHING ABOUT GOD UNTIL SOMETHING HAPPENS THEN WE HEAR 'WE'RE PRAYING FOR THE VICTIMS AND THEIR FAMILIES"..LET'S TURN IT AROUND..PRAYER BEFORE THE TROUBLE HAPPENS..IT CAN ONLY HELP THE CURRENT SITUATIONS WE ARE FACING DAILY IN OUR SCHOOLS..WE NEED MORALS AND GODLINESS IN ALL OF AMERICA AGAIN

Wow Rebeca that is scary that happened in your town, really makes you wonder how we can stay safe anymore.

Being that I study people who do this, people automatically assume that these killers are evil and twisted and they are thankful that they are either dead or locked up, when in fact most of these people who have done this were people who reached out and were never seen or heard. This is a great article.. Bravo!

Just here in my city yesterday a 16 year old boy took a gun to school, waved it at his ex and her new boyfriend then drove off and shot himself

Thanks Stephanie I appreciate that it's hard to make sure that I got them all some of them aren't publicized like the other ones.
