The rise of 3D movies has had a profound effect on film fans. The appeal of this dazzling format has reached down to even the youngest of movie goers. Memphis, Tennessee's Pink Palace IMAX Theater saw a massive influx of adolescents waiting in line to experience one such film. Disgruntled parents and screaming kids as far as the eye could see. What was all the fuss about? Ask Disney and Pixar.

"Cars 2" revved its engine and raced right into the city. The much awaited "Cars 2" IMAX 3D Experience was among the most popular sites for viewing the film. For those unfamiliar with the Pixar hit, it features a cast of anthropomorphic cars. All makes and models make appearances in the films- whether they're racing, dancing, or letting rip lame jokes. The titular characters are voiced by none other than Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy.
The major strength of the films is their uncanny ability to appeal not only to adolescent audiences, but many adults adore the films as well. For every disgruntled Memphian parent at the Pink Palace, there was at least one excited adult waiting in line to see it alone. The strong interest in seeing the film in IMAX 3D was bred from a strong advertising campaign in Tennessee. Afterward, what did Memphis movie fans have to say about the film and its much touted 3D experience? I would later find out at a local film club's, Midnight Run, social function.

Barbeque and homemade ice cream were plentiful at this movie, music, and video game social get-together. A few classic movies were screened in the living room, but most of the fun was taking place in the backyard. The talk of the party? "Cars 2."
"I was very impressed. The screen was massive, the animation was top notch, and the 3D effects were awesome- to say the least. The Italy scenes were especially enjoyable. Seeing the motion blur and three dimensional effects on the Italian track were awe-inspiring. It left me wondering why so many other films do 3D so poorly. I mean, 'The Last Airbender,' looked awful." -- Milo Parker, 25, Memphis
"I thought the race segments were a letdown this time. The humor was even more at the forefront this time though. Mater was hilarious! Pixar learned to put him in even more of the movie this time. Mater's Japan scenes left me unable to breathe from all the laughing. Lightening McQueen didn't really do it for me though. They should work on his material. The 3D effects were impressive, but not necessarily worth the inflated ticket price." -- Alice Breton, 20, Cordova
"I don't know why Disney did a sequel to 'Cars,' but I enjoyed it. I think there were more deserving Pixar films that should have gotten a second outing. Where's my 'A Bug's Life,' sequel? On a side note, I felt like Owen Wilson hammed it up. Every line that guy delivers is like a plate of steaming ham. Am I the only one that noticed he has no talent?" -- Ramona Galleon, 32, Memphis
