The cave is reportedly almost 2 miles long with ceilings reaching heights of up to 20 feet. The owner of the cave and the A frame house which once stood above the entrance is a Mr. Fred Strunk, who is currently serving out an eighteen year sentence stemming from the variety of charges he faced when his "pot cave" was discovered. The property will be split into two tracts and sold, one of these tracts will contain the former house site, the house has burned down since the arrest of the owner, and a large part of the cave. The other tract will have a portion of the cave beneath it, but no ground access to the cave.
Other than the obvious exciting aspects of this sale in terms of what will be done with the cave, one of the most exciting aspects is that they have decided to open the cave for public inspection for two days before the sale takes place. The days for the public inspection will be November 8, 2007 and November 15, 2007. They will have their hands full for these two days when all of the curious locals begin to come in for their official tour of the "pot cave" that garnered so much attention.
The expectations of how much money the selling of the cave will draw for the Drug Task Force is astronomical, and the possibilities of the future use of this cave are endless.
Whatever happens with this cave in the future, authorities are certain that it will be used for better purposes than it was the first time, and the small town of Hartsville located in Trousdale County, Tennessee will enjoy the commerce brought to the town by visitors when the cave is open for public viewing, and when the actual auction takes place. Although, I am certain, Hartsville had rather be remembered for its friendliness, it's football; it's nice hometown atmosphere, or anything else in the world than the town in Tennessee that is home to the "pot cave".
