The Titans score on their opening drive with a quarterback run by Vince Young. Titans take a 7-0 lead.
Rob Bironas kicked a 47 yard field goal to give the Titans a 10-0 Lead.
Right before the end of the half, Rob Bironas kicks a 53 yard field goal to give the Titans a 13-0 lead.
The Titans 13 play 86 yard drive is capped of by Lendale White running for a 1-yard touchdown. The Titans lead 20-0.
David Carr throws an 18 yard TD pass to Drew Carter to pull the Panthers to 7-20.
Once again it was the defense that made things happen for the Titans. Albert Haynesworth had a total of 3 sacks today and the Titans Defense had a total of seven sacks. Defensive Ends Kyle Vandenbosch and Travis Laboy added to the total. Perhaps the most important stat of the day was the number three. That is the number of receptions that star Panther receiver Steve Smith had. His threat of having big plays had to be the biggest concern for the Titan defense. Tennessee kept #89 in check all afternoon mostly because of the play of young cornerback Cortland Finnegan. Finnegan was right on Smith all day even getting called for a personal foul for a huge hit he put on Smith late in the game. The young cornerback clearly had a better day than the all pro receiver.
During the first drive of the game the Titans offense looked great. They drove down the field, mostly through the air and got a touchdown to finish their drive. Lendale White would carry the team the majority of the rest of the day. White ran for 31 carries and gained 100 yards giving him three straight one-hundred yard games. White appears to be more and more comfortable in the backfield and is carrying the rushing attack for the Titans.
The Titans will hopefully continue to get better on the offensive side of the ball. Even though they got the win, as a fan I would like to see a little more production in the passing game. It's obvious the defense and running game will carry this team this year. Just how far can they go is yet to be seen.
Next week is a tough challenge for the Titans. They get Jacksonville at home. The Titans crushed the Jags early in the year running for well over 200 yards and beating them in the first game of the season. The Jags are an improved team since this game and will be looking for a little revenge and to pull to a tie for second in the AFC south.
