Another team has passed on New York Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell.

The Tennessee Titans have confirmed that, as expected, Mike Munchak will be the team's head coach. Tennessee's offensive line coach of 14 years was promoted on Monday afternoon. Numerous sources around the country reported last week that Munchak was the favorite to get the job. The Titans had interviewed several other candidates, including Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell.

Fewell interviewed with the Titans, Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos during this offseason. Despite the fact that he will return to the Giants as the team's defensive coordinator for the 2011 NFL season, Fewell does not believe his time was wasted over the past month. He has stated that he's "learned from each and every interview I've been on." The SF Gate website claims all we've learned is that Fewell is yet another "Rooney Rule Tool." For what it's worth, it was never believed that Fewell had a legitimate shot at the Tennessee job.

The Rooney Rule discussion is one that comes up during every NFL offseason. The fact that Fewell will again be leading the New York defense can only be a positive for the team, as he will have even more time to work with the likes of Justin Tuck, Corey Webster and others. Perhaps this gained chemistry will prevent another Meltdown at the Meadowlands.
