Rob Bironas kicks a 52 yard field goal in the first quarter to give the Titans an early 3-0 lead.
Quarterback Kerry Collins fumbles the ball after being hit by DeMeco Ryans who returned the fumble 26 yards for a touchdown.
After two Rob Bironas field goals, running back LenDale White scores a touchdown on a 1 yard run.
Rob Bironas kicks three more field goals including a 43 yarder to add to the Titans lead.
Second round draft pick Chris Henry gets his 1st NFL touchdown on a four yard run in the third quarter.
Texan backup Sage Rosenfels leads the Texans to three fourth quarter touchdowns.
The Texans recover an onside kick after two attempts. They then score a touchdown to take the lead.
Rob Bironas kicks his eighth field goal of the game(NFL record) to beat the Texans 38-36.
The Titans should feel very fortunate to win this game. After looking incredible for three quarters, the Titans defense appeared to go to sleep in the fourth quarter allowing the Texans to put up 29 points in one quarter. This is a team that hadn't even allowed a fourth quarter touchdown this year coming into this game. The Texans appeared to pick on veteran cornerback Nick Harper in the fourth quarter. Harper looked great early in the game coming up with two interceptions but really seemed a step slow late in the game.
Early in the game it appeared the Titans might be on the turnover train again. After two early fumbles however, the Titans took good care of the football and even forced four turnovers of their own. It's obvious that the team still needs to work on red zone efficiency. It's great that Bironas kicked eight field goals and broke the record, but he was only able to do that because the Titans couldn't stick it in the end zone. If the Titans expect to be a legitimate playoff team they will have to correct this problem.
On a good note Tennessee did a better job of moving the ball on offense. Running Back LenDale White grinded it out with twenty-seven attempts for 104 yards. Rookie Chris Henry took advantage of his chance to play by gaining fifty-seven yards on eleven carries. The young back looked quick and showed he could make plays on offense.
The Titans hope to have starter Vince Young back next week as they take on the Oakland Raiders at home. Whatever happens, Kerry Collins performance today should help them rest a little easier as they wait for Young to recover. For now the Titans have move to 4-2 and are in the early playoff hunt.
