The 2010 Women's College World Series has its first team. Tennessee beat Michigan on Friday to make the 2010 Women's College World Series, upsetting the No. 2 seeded Wolverines in a two game sweep of the best-of-three series. This was supposed to be a series that Michigan could win, playing right there in Ann Arbor, and favored to come out of their Super Regional to qualify for the 2010 Women's College World Series. It wasn't meant to be though, as Tennessee won the first game 5-0 on Thursday, and then finished off Michigan on Friday by a score of 4-3. It was a pretty impressive showing for the Tennessee Volunteers, and puts them as the first team in the 2010 Women's College World Series.

Tennessee came into the 2010 NCAA Softball Championship Bracket as the No. 15 seeded team, getting to play in Knoxville during the regional rounds. They swept through those games as well, beating out Ball State, Louisville, and Virginia to move on to the Super Regionals. There have been a number of upsets so far in the NCAA softball playoffs, but this one is by the far the biggest one in the tournament. Michigan was 49-6 this season coming into the Super Regionals, and fell just short against a Tennessee team that has gotten hot at the right time. The rest of the eight team field for the 2010 Women's College World Series will be flushed out through the weekend, as the rest of the Super Regionals come to an end.
