I recently visited Tequila's Mexican Bar and Grill. To say that it was a completely pleasant experience would be an over-statement at best.
When we arrived, a lovely young woman who barely spoke English promptly greeted us. This of course is not unusual in an ethnic restaurant. She quickly took us to a booth while my husband rushed to ask if there were a smoking section. Eventually, she understood his request and led us to a long staircase leading into the basement.
I cannot help but think that was where we made our mistake.
Entering the bar area of the basement we quickly realized there were no dining tables. We hoisted ourselves up onto the barstools provided at the tables and waited.
When we arrived there were six patrons present; two at the bar and four others among two other tables.
When the bartender finally decided to come to our table, she asked immediately what we wanted to eat. We both ordered the Burrito Mexicana for $8.99. The Burrito Mexicana is two burritos filled with pork tips and beans, topped with lettuce, tomato, avocado, jalapeƱo and normally queso sauce. However, we asked for a verde sauce in place of the queso.
The minute we finished our food order, she disappeared without giving us a chance to ask for a drink. When it became obvious she was not coming back, my husband went to her and ordered our drinks.
I had a margarita. It was on the smallish side and so the $5 cost seemed a bit pricey. However, it was very tasty and well mixed.
Before our food arrived, the couple behind us had their food delivered. I say the bartender took our order; that appears to have been her only job. She did not deliver any of the food to any of the eight patrons.
Now the couple behind us had food, but no utensils. We heard the man call out for silverware. To this, she replied, "Over there at the end of the bar." She made no effort to get the silverware for that table, or any other for that matter. It seemed as if we were somehow intruding on her time.
Our food arrived in a timely fashion. It smelled and looked delicious; it was beautifully presented.
The food did not disappoint us. Every morsel was as delicious as it looked and smelled, in fact, the avocado on top was the best avocado I have ever eaten.
While we could not help but think we might have gotten better service upstairs, the food was delicious and the over-all price was moderate.
We might give Tequila's Mexican Bar and Grill another chance. But, you can be sure we have found another reason why smoking isn't worth it.

Post a CommentThis is a good place... I like the Speedy Gonzalez! I like the new La Iguana in Branson on the strip a lot better, though. It's completely different.
The food is excellent and everyone there is SO friendly and ready to please the customers. I would highly recommend this restaurant for Mexican food and atmosphere.
I love Tequillas. I go whenever I can. I do stay upstairs though. I advise that people don't go downstairs. Yummy food for sure!
I'm so glad your experience was more positive the second time around. You seem to like Mexican food. :) Excellent review!

We did give Tequila's another try last night. I am pleased to tell everyone that my assessment of the "smoking section" was not wrong. We were quickly seated in the non-smoking section. Once again the food was delicious. Our service was excellent. So if you find yourself in the Branson area, don't miss a stop in Branson West at Tequila's. Just stay out of the bar!
I enjoyed your review. You will have to let us know when you try again. Hopefully, upstairs.
