Termites Fight Back

Last year, around the month of May 2009, we had pest control visit our home to get rid of termites as well as other bugs. They treated our home with a liquid anti-termite solution and fogged the house to kill other bugs such as ants and roaches. We were glad that we contacted them early on as they were already eating away the wooden floor in my old room on the second floor. A few weeks or months later and it would have been a disaster.

I'd like to mention their name as they've done a great job. The employees of Metropolitan Pest Control here in Quezon City were professionals and friendly. Almost a whole year has passed now and there were very few signs of other pests.

However, a month ago, my mom accidentally bumped into a huge cardboard box. She then noticed that it sounded funny when she bumped into it so she kicked it lightly and the sound became more alarming that funny. It sounded like the box was crumbling and that it's empty inside even though there are lots of things inside that box. We then remembered that was the sound that the other boxes made last year when termites were feasting on them. True enough, when she took a peek inside the box, it seems the box is already being eaten away.

We then called the pest control company back and as soon as they came in, they headed straight to where the box is on the second floor and removed the items and to our surprise, they were sarcastically flourishing. There were a lot of them and they barely started taking the floor again. The area was treated again and is now termite free. As you can see in the picture, there is slight damage on the wooden floor. That's where the big cardboard box was.

The pest control guy told us that what happened was that area was their last resort and they were the last batch of termites in our home. They must have moved there after the treatment a year ago. It was a good thing that my mom found that out early on so nothing bad really happened.

If you suspect that you have termites in your home, do not do anything to it like move the things away from it or try to kill them yourself. They can easily transfer and possibly spread throughout your home. Call professional pest control services in your area so that it can be treated correctly. Do not take termites lightly.
