"Terra Nova," Season 1, Episode 11, "Within" is a set up for the climactic final battle between Taylor and his prehistoric colonists and the evil people from the future who want to rape the land -- or something like that.
Spoilers follow.
Skye, still the unwilling spy, visits the Sixer camp to deliver some more intelligence and visit her ailing mom. She meets Lucas, Taylor's estranged son, for the first time. He is a piece of work, with daddy issues (like a lot of episodic TV characters) and power issues. He is not working for the bad guys for the money or because he believes in exploiting the resources of dinosaur-age Earth. He just wants to see the look on his old man's face when he does it.
Skye is forced to use the Terra Nova central computer to perform the calculations necessary to cause the portal to go both ways. But Taylor and Shannon are already onto her, thanks to a new security camera at her egress point through the fence. They try an old intelligence trick by feeding her information about a supply convoy. When the convoy is not attacked by the Sixers, Shannon concludes that Skye is only feeding them limited, useless intel and is likely being coerced.
Skye's mom tells her little girl to go ahead and let her die and warn Terra Nova of what is coming. Tearfully, but dutifully, she complies. Taylor is really put out, but something Lucas said about a date, which happened to be when his own mom died, convinces him.
Lucas takes control of the portal and goes back to the future, after a good gloat with the old man. It looks like that very soon, the invasion is on.
In the meantime, Taylor arranges for his own mole in the Sixer camp to rescue Skye's mom. She is now in the infirmary and it looks like Elisabeth will be able to manufacture the drug that can be used to treat what ails her.
The episode ends with Taylor haranguing his people like Julius Caesar. It looks like blood is going to flow in the two-hour finale.
