Terrel Owens Has Surgery on His Finger

George Kouri
The Dallas Cowboys and their fans had high expectations this year with Terrel Owens being signed in the off-season. Controversial or not Terrel Owens is one of the best wide receivers in the league and with Terry Glenn on the other side the Cowboys expected to be very explosive on offense. Owens season started off very slow until Drew Bledsoe was replaced with Tony Romo and Tony Romo was more than happy to get the ball to Owens. Romo and Owens seemed to click instantly and Owens became one of Romo's favorite targets.

Unfortunately for the Cowboys Terrel Owens tore a tendon in one of his fingers. Owens was faced with either being sidelined and having surgery or playing out the rest of the season and risk permanent damage to his finger. He chose to finish the season. Owens finger injury was very noticeable considering he led the league in dropped passes.

Owens who led the team with 85 catches and 1180 yards and led the league with 13 touchdowns said his injured finger is no excuse for leading the league in dropped passes. Owens underwent surgery for his torn tendon January 11th in Miami and doctors believe it was a success. Owens told Fort Worth Star-Telegram that he will be ready for next season. Owens told the newspaper by glad I had the surgery. Doctors say he should return at 100%.

Terrel Owens who is known for his brash, cocky and controversial comments during and after games signed with the Cowboys last March for $25 million. Owens is due a $3 million roster bonus in June and Jerry Jones has said repeatedly that he wants Terrel Owens to return. Jerry Jones is also optimistic about bringing back Terry Glenn who is also has a signing bonus worth $5 million coming.

However whether or not Bill Parcells is coming back is still in question in Parcells has given no clue either way on what he wants to do. Jones says he's comfortable waiting for Parcells to make a decision on his future. Although most believe he will return to coach the Cowboys next season considering how well the team performed this year. Unfortunately until Bill Parcells makes his decision to Cowboys future is still up in the air. Parcells was supposed to meet with team owner Jerry Jones Friday but there's no word yet on what the future will hold. Jerry Jones also has repeated several times he want Parcells back for next year.

Interesting sports article. Imagine playing football with a torn tendon in your finger. That must have hurt like getting hit with a hammer each catch.
