Terrell Owens Released by Dallas Cowboys
Terrell Owens was Released by the Cowboys Early Thursday Morning
Just one year ago, Terrell Owens received a four year contract extension from the Cowboys, which included a $12 million signing bonus. In hindsight, it appears as though this extensive contract with the bonus was a mistake on the behalf of the Cowboy's organization.
Despite being one of the best wide receivers in today's modern game (and arguably over all time), Terrell Owens has frequently been described as a clubhouse cancer-a player that despite all of the talent, wasn't worth the headache with his antics and his jokes. Fans from around the National Football League typically love to hate Terrell Owens. He did not leave his previous two teams on a positive note. Frequently, he had problems with both of the starting quarterbacks he had worked with previous to arriving in Dallas.
His statistics seem to have taken a dip, which may have been a big reason why he was released by the Cowboys. Last season, Terrell Owens posted 69 catches for 1,052 receiving yards and ten touchdowns. Since 2006, he had posted touchdown numbers of 10+ in all three of those seasons. Owens was a real red zone threat, constantly putting up big-time touchdown numbers and using his massive 6'3", 218 pound frame to dominate defensive backs in the endzones.
The Cowboys acquired wide receiver Roy Williams from the Detroit Lions last season, and many NFL fans and analysts speculated it could potentially mean the end of the line for Owens when the season was up. Owen's statistics have taken a massive hit over the past few years, despite playing with some of the most talented quarterbacks in the game.
NFL fans who follow Terrell Owens are undoubtedly familiar with his ridiculous touchdown scoring dances. Many times, he was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct or taunting whenever he performed them, but it never seemed to faze Owens.
One of the most memorable touchdown celebrations from Owens was when he took a complete box of popcorn and poured it like a shower over his face, exclaiming to fans to "get their popcorn ready."
It is unknown at this time if Terrell Owens will look to catch on with another team. Considering his history with other NFL teams, it is unlikely that a team takes a chance on him, though it is not out of the picture.

Post a CommentHindsight? I was literally screaming at my brother when Jerry Jones signed him. We're both Cowboys fans. I told him then that it was just another Deion Sanders maneuver. Soap opera crap. I am so glad he's gone... Maybe the 'Boys can back to some real football...
