Terrell Owens Signed by Buffalo Bills
Terrell Owens Signed with the Buffalo Bills on Saturday Evening. What Can He Bring to the Team?
Owen's deal is reportedly worth $6.5 million, with a $4 million signing bonus.
Owens signing with the Buffalo Bills comes as somewhat of a surprise. The Bills have a young, but not standout, quarterback in Trent Edwards. Edwards is a developing passer who has a chance to be very good. There aren't a significant number of other wide receiver threats on the Bills, however. Wide receiver Lee Evans leads the core, with Roscoe Parrish, Josh Reed, and James Hardy also part of the receiving core.
Though the team does not have a great passing and receiving core, Lee Evans should be able to see more single coverage. Evans, a talented wide receiver out of the University of Wisconsin, has played with a lot of opposite-side wide receivers. However, he has never truly flourished and demonstrated his top tier wide receiving skills.
Another reason why some are so surprised that Owens signed with the Bills, is because of Buffalo's small market. Philadelphia and Dallas were two major market teams, where he received an awful lot of camera time and press. Media attention will be around Buffalo much more often this season.
While Buffalo does not get a great amount of nationwide media attention, they have an incredibly dedicated fanbase-among the most dedicated in the entire National Football League. For the most part, the team has not had a dynamic offense for several years. With the signing of Owens, it should help their offense chug along, and makes them a true offensive threat in 2009.
It will be interesting to see how Terrell Owens performs in his debut for Buffalo.
