Terrell Owens: Where Will He Sign?

Terrell Owens was Released by the Cowboys; Where Will He Sign?

The Dallas Cowboys released Terrell Owens, and his agent says that he will be signed in the near future. What teams could possibly want to take a chance on Terrell?

Owens has practically destroyed the locker rooms of three different NFL teams now: the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, and the Dallas Cowboys. It is difficult to determine a "perfect fit" for Owens.

However, here are a few teams that I believe Owens has a legitimate chance at signing with.

Oakland Raiders: ESPN sure jumped all over this one. Terrell Owens would be a good fit in the Bay Area, partly because of Oakland Raiders team owner, Al Davis. Davis has been known to traditionally sign low-character players, if he determines they have a talent level that could help the team nonetheless. One of the best examples of this was wide receiver Javon Walker, who had an extremely down season in 2008. The Raiders have to be considered the favorite for Terrell Owens to land.

One of the things that could keep the Raiders from signing Owens is the fact that they do not have a solid quarterback situation. Quarterback JaMarcus Russell is still developing as a passer, and Terrell Owens may not want to have to deal with a passer who cannot feed him the ball on a consistent basis. That being said, the Raiders do not have a lot of receivers who can catch, so the Raiders maintain their status as a favorite for acquiring Owens.

Minnesota Vikings: If you were asked to name a team with glaring needs at wide receiver, chances are that you would instantly think of the Minnesota Vikings. Since Randy Moss left the team, the Vikings have been searching for a true, go-to receiver to lead their stable of guys. Wide receiver Troy Williamson was a terrible bust.

Like Oakland, Minnesota is limited by the fact that they do not have a solid quarterback situation. Newly acquired quarterback Sage Rosenfels and incumbent quarterback Tarvaris Jackson will battle it out for the starting position, but neither of these guys are likely to suit Owens. However, Minnesota is in the market for a big time wide receiver, and if they determine they can deal with his attitude, there is a good chance that they will acquire him. Look for Minnesota to be in the running.

Denver Broncos: Considered somewhat of a darkhorse, Owens could see himself going to Denver. Playing across the field from Brandon Marshall would be an incredible opportunity for Owens, who would get a great partner-in-crime to work with. Whether the Broncos will want to take a chance on a low-character guy remains to be seen. Marshall has had problems as well, so they may not want to add another volatile personality to their stable of receivers.
