I was fortunate to have received an invitation to attend the game, and I must say that the fan base for the Buckeye football team is, in a word, fanatic. With attendance reported in excess of 105,000, the sea of red jerseys reinforced the intensity of the crowd. All had come to the game expecting a blowout. All expected Pryor to produce a statistic laden performance designed to keep him firmly in Heisman contention. The fans were not disappointed.
Pryor scored on the Buckeye's first possession with a 53 yard touchdown run. This play really set the tone for the entire game. In 1950 OSU defeated Iowa 83 - 21. The Buckeyes' 73 points on Saturday is the most put on the board since that rout six decades ago.
OSU put double digit scores on the board in all four quarters of the lopsided game. The Buckeyes scored on their first six possessions, including five touchdowns and one field goal in the first half. The team rounded out the second half of the game with five additional touchdowns.
Dane Sanzenbacher, a senior, turned in a stellar performance in the game as well. He caught four touchdown passes from Pryor which tied two school records. Sanzenbacher had a total of nine receptions for a total of 108 yards from the passing attack. DeVier Posey, a junior, had two receptions for a total of 34 yards.
Pryor, a junior, certainly added to his resume with 20 completions out of 26 passes for 224 yards in the air, and he also racked up 104 yards rushing including the 53 yard TD in the opening possession. Late in the third quarter, Pryor also caught a TD pass from a former High School teammate, Jordan Hall. Pryor is now able to claim the trifecta: Passing for, rushing for, and receiving a touchdown pass in the same game.
This was an enjoyable game to watch. Eastern Michigan executed three good drives for scores, and those with bets on the spread had reason to pause at the end of the first half. It was fun to watch and listen to the OSU (#2) fans react to the scores of the Arkansas - Alabama game as it progressed throughout the afternoon. Alabama (#1) eventually came back and beat Arkansas. Groans from the crowd at this news were the only negative reactions from the thousands of Buckeye fans.

Post a CommentSpanked 'em, huh? Nice!
Nicely done, Cheers. :)
It was a good game.
He's definitely a Heisman hopeful. When he was coming out of high school in Pennsylvania, Pryor was heavily recruited by Ohio State and Penn State, in particular. Joe Paterno wasn't pleased to lose that recruiting battle.
Somewhere Woody Hayes has a smile on his face. Nice work.
Hmmm, Vincent. I had not thought about the mystery symbolism angle in the title. LOL (Thanks for the read!)
Ah! I was fooled into wonder what these symbols meant! Football! Sneaky, Major... (Just kidding)
