Terri Clark Pulls Out Her "Roots and Wings" in 2011
Terri Clark is a Canadian country singer and "Roots and Wings" is her eighth album. 'Roots and Wings" was released in 2011 and as I was going through 2011 music album releases I landed on it and decided to give it a whirl. It mostly sounded like a record being played with ones finger holding down against it though; not good, not good.
"Wrecking Ball": Terri Clark takes a theme "she is a wrecking ball" and applies it to relationships, ect. I'm not sure whether to say "kudos" for being able to create an entire song around something and actually make it make sense. Or to say "wow, what crap" because it is a boring stupid song. Either or. If you like country music it is a basic upbeat tune, mostly catering to a female listener.
"Breakin' Up Thing": A jaded singer that lacks the swagger to pull off sarcasm, a lazy sneer at someone who "has that breakin' up thing down." Some of the notes she tries to hit make her sound like a Muppet.
"The One": Cute, but due to her age it feels like a pathetic spinster's view instead of being more identifiable to a wider audience searching for love.
"Northern Girl": Country hood gang sign slangin' she's a Northern girl, not really. I guess if you a girl who comes form the North you can sing along, you can probably sing it just as well as Terri Clark too.
"Beautiful And Broken": A tone deaf ballad with some banjo pickin'.
"Lonesome's Last Call": A slow ballad that paints a dive bar picture and I think I wuld rather hear whatever is on the jukebox within the picture instead of this song, it's painting, but the passion is in the picture within the picture, hear what I'm saying?
"The Good Was Great": Nothing good, nothing great. This is like a slow movie that just won't end, not enough material to keep interest, just drawing out what little is there real slow like.
"Smile": Hallmark greeting card style BS about smiling while missing someone ect. Terri Clark doesn't sell it well.
"We're Here For A Good Time": She delivers the chorus with all the twang of Rebecca 'Friday" Black and it seems like it is supposed to be a "we're here for a good time going to party even if it is raining" type of song, but the party vibe is really weak and robotic; not cool robotic with lasers.
"Flowers In Snow": The music itself is a nice tone setter, but the female Kermit the Frog squanders the opportunity to actually make a good country song.
