Terrorism And Military Experience For Our President

Kezia Dewi
Terrorism is the unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons. Today, terrorism is our enemy. We live in a day where terrorist doesn't declare war, he attacks swiftly, without warning and usually with deep seated ideological hatred, such as religion terrorism. Our enemy is clever, organized and well financed. They also lives among the population, the ultimate Trojan horse.

Unfortunately, today's enemy is not easily swayed by the traditional military strategy of deterrence. A new security and defense paradigm to protect the homeland from the terrorists needs to be developed and efficiently executed. In United States, the commander-in-chief of the army is the President. It will be this person, our president, who will make the decision whether or not to engage an enemy who attacks or provides an imminent and credible threat against the American people. Thats why, our president does not necessarily have to have combat experience. But, he could have served on active duty. For example, with the National Guard, the reserves or the US Coast Guard. Some of our president, such as Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and the current President Bush had varying degrees of military service but saw no combat. Our president must have some understanding of what our troops will undertake for their country when he sends them into battle.

Of course, military experience is not the only criteria upon which to judge our presidents, but it is should be a primary factor. It makes high risk to put an inexperienced person in charge of a group of people he is in charge of during a critical point in time. From the moment of operation begins, all servicemen, staffers, and specialists enlisted for the conduct of the counterterrorist operation are under the command of our president. We need strong leadership to protect American peoples. As we know, the ability to adapt to changing times on other domestic and international issues that affect our citizens and the world at large are just as important factors. But without a country that is properly protected, the other issues become secondary concerns.

We need to be sure that president, the Commander in Chief of our military personnel, has military experience in order to protect its people. I believe that military experience is very relevant to the election. It is the responsibility of every voter to evaluate the military experience of our presidents.
