Terrorism in Virginia: Teabaggers Lash Out Against Congressman Perriello

A Difference of Opinion Gone Wrong

It's been several days since the voting of the health care bill transpired. In Central Virginia, there seems to be no middle ground-- they are either wholeheartedly on board with the reform, or think that it is some unthinkable, horrible, "Socialist" thing that's been voted in. It seems that a lot of people haven't even read the bill, yet have a very definite opinion on it, based on their political association.

Either way, there are extremists on both ends of the political spectrum. Yesterday, a friend posted a link to an article on our local news' website. I saw the article's title, "FBI: Perriello Targeted Through Gas Line Cut," and though, "What now?" Apparently, a member of the "Tea Party" posted the address of what he thought was Congressman Tom Perriello 's home, so people could express their emotions on his vote for the health care reform.

Even if he had good intentions, I feel as if posting a Congressman's address is dangerous. This story proves that to be true.

A gas line was cut at the address that others believed to be Mr. Perriello's home, and the FBI seems is investigating it, as they believe it may have been done as a threat to the Congressman over his vote for the health care bill. However, this wasn't even the home of Tom Perriello. It was the home of his brother, Bo Perriello, who lives there with his wife a his four young children.

I can understand having a difference of opinion, but when someone performs acts of terrorism because of their difference in opinion, that's going too, too far. It's especially infuriating when you find out that kids' lives were at risk. There's no excuse for this behavior.

If people want to make a difference, they need to put foot to pavement, get people involved, and write letters and make phone calls. They may not think they're being heard, but I truly believe that people like Congressman Perriello listen and take things into account, and make educated and intelligent decisions.

Yeah... when I first heard what they called themselves, I laughed... a lot.
