Terry Jones - Funny in Monty Python, but Not when Burning the Koran

Florida Pastor Has a Screw Loose

Paul Rance
Terry Jones was funny when he was with Monty Python, but he's not so funny as a pastor with his Koran burning agenda.

Pythonesque Pastor Terry Jones

Later... It's not the Python Terry Jones, then? But Florida pastor Terry Jones seems Pythonesque. To publicly burn the Koran would, no doubt, result in death to innocent people and allied troops.

Though I think people have a right to voice their opinions, and I will defend someone's right to say things I strongly disagree with, surely the actions of pastor Terry Jones is incitement. I'm not a Christian, but I'd be horrified if people burnt the Bible. A lack of respect for people's beliefs is at the core of the strife we find ourselves in right now.

Does Terry Jones think that burning the Koran will impress all Christians? Of course some will look upon him as a hero, but fanatics will always have their followers, and, sadly, fanatics often shout the loudest - stifling the moderate voices.

Maybe we lack strong world figures who can glue divided societies together. President Tito, as an example, held Yugoslavia together, and when he died all the ethnic and religious tensions and differences resulted in a bloodbath. Tito was not a man you'd probably want round for dinner, but it's interesting to see how one man can make such a difference. Barack Obama is still fairly early into his presidency, so it'd be unfair to dismiss his handling of affairs - both global and internal - just yet.

Jones Soon to Be Forgotten, Hopefully

Pastor Terry Jones, hopefully, will be one of those names who became famous, or infamous, overnight and will then be pretty much forgotten about in a year's time. Terry Jones has managed to get attention for himself, and sometimes the media frustrates you because they often give fruitcakes like Jones the airtime they desperately crave.

Nine years after September 11th, do we want to follow Terry Jones down the road of revenge and hatred, and condemn all Muslims as extremists who are hell-bent on forcing the Western world to adopt their faith, and will use terror to achieve it?

The only Terry Jones I want to hear about in the future is the one who makes me laugh.

Wise words! Personally I was very worried when news came out about the burning. I've a brother and fiance in the military and such unwarranted acts of hate could endanger their lives..

Hey, we can have a Monty Python-athon instead of Burn a Koran Day. May the world heal with laughter!

I agree with you. The right to protest is one thing, but to pick a particular action that would do such irreparable harm is a very bad decision.

I think when some people feel completely frustrated and smothered, they think about doing crazy things. They do have a need to be heard, and a right to be heard. A reminder that even negative attention is attention. And wouldn't you know? I watched some Python on netflix last weekend...

Well said, Paul! Unfortunately, the media gives attention to those who deserve it least these days!

News says there were a few burnings around the country...sad day

    Great work, Paul!

Bravo Paul. With all the important issues the world faces, here we are again with religion, hate, and intolerance front and center as violence, starvation, and homelessness rage. Very disappointing for a species which supposedly occupies the highest evolutionary rung.
