New Videos from Terry Tate, Office Linebacker Hit the Web

Brad Sylvester
To football fans, office workers, and even aficionados of the Super Bowl halftime commercial, the name Terry Tate, Office Linebacker is well known. The actor responsible for the Terry Tate character, Lester Speight, is now becoming famous to a new audience. Not only is he a busy actor, but he is the voice of Augustus Cole in the popular new video game Gears of War. In Gears of War, Augustus Cole uses some of Terry Tate, Office Linebacker's signature smackdown phrases as he puts a more permanent hurt on his opponents.

New Videos from Terry Tate, Office Linebacker

Terry Tate, Office Linebacker is, himself, making a comeback with a new website, returnofterrytate.com. The returnofterrytate.com website offers a retrospective of all the old Terry Tate, Office Linebacker videos, which are just as funny as ever. The new website also offers three brand new videos in which Terry Tate, Office Linebacker videos urges viewers to go online and find out where to vote. Although the videos don't explicitly espouse one candidate over the other, in two of the videos, Speight as Office Linebacker Terry Tate, interrupts a meandering Sarah Palin as she attempts to respond to a question from Katie Couric with graphic and violent tackles worthy of an NFL highlight reel, just like those he made famous in the original Terry Tate, Office Linebacker commercials for Reebok. The tackles are followed up by Tate posturing over a cowering Palin, with his familiar, in your face style of taunting before reminding viewers to look online to find out where to vote in the 2008 presidential election.

Terry Tate, Office Linebacker Becomes Super Bowl Star

As an All American Linebacker for Division 1 Morgan State University, Lester Speight, the actor who played Terry Tate, Office Linebacker, must have once dreamed of playing the Super Bowl. He was even drafted to play professional football by the Baltimore Stars of the USFL. Unfortunately, the USFL folded that same year, before he ever made it onto the field. Some say that the Terry Tate, Office Linebacker commercials from Reebok were the most replayed part of Super Bowl XXXVII in 2003. Although it may have taken a different path than one might expect, Lester Speight, as Terry Tate, Office Linebacker, did become a Super Bowl star after all.

Lester Speight aka Terry Tate, Office Linebacker aka Rasta, the Voodoo Man

After the Baltimore Stars and the USFL passed away, Lester Speight earned his living as a professional wrestler. He signed with the WWF (now WWE) as Rasta, the Voodoo Man. As the name implies, Rasta, The Voodoo Man was another larger than life character that perhaps foreshadowed Speight's Office Linebacker, Terry Tate character that was still years away. Wrestling, it turned out was a stepping stone to a more serious acting career. IMDb shows a lengthy acting resume for the actor responsible for terry Tate, Office Linebacker, including a prominent role in Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay.

Terry Tate, Office Linebacker May Need More Sensitivity Training

The new Terry Tate, Office Linebacker videos featuring bone-crushing tackles of Sarah Palin. Some viewers have said that the videos promote violence against women. Given the cartoonish nature of the Terry Tate, Office Linebacker, others say, this is not a realistic concern. Terry Tate, Office Linebacker has made a career of attacking weaker, unsuspecting men and women. I don't think the videos promote violence to women and more than they promote violence against men. That said, however, in my opinion the violent content would make the Terry Tate, Office Linebacker videos unsuitable for young children, unless a parent is present to explain that the violence is meant as a joke and that in real life, that behavior would be not only wrong, but criminal.

Great read! I am so excited for more Office Linebacker videos. I used to show them in the classroom when I was teaching college students - very effective for waking people up!

Very entertaining article, Brad. My sincere hope is that after Tuesday, the only time I will see Ms. Palin's image on my television, will be when she and her First Dude are waving bye bye on their way back to Alaska.

To Linda, time in the public eye has nothing to do with it. The woman is in her mid 40s and doesn't know squat about the country she lives in or our form of government- thinks if elected VP she will be running the Senate so it will support White House polices. That is pathetic for any citizen let alone one who purports to be qualified to serve in national office. Fun article Brad.

Maybe Palin will do a joint appearance with Tate or an interview, having appeared on Saturday Night Live after having been spoofed by Fey. Nothing would surprise me at this point. Those videos are sure to grab headlines!

Linda, we both know that she's had more executive experience than anyone on the ticket. Don't you think she should be able to fend off Katie Couric if she is used to Putin rearing his head over the border?

  • Linda Johnson10/28/2008

Yes she had had almost 3 weeks in the public eye by the time of that interview, slow learner.
