Test for Healthy Hair

Robyn Lines
Sink or Float
Pluck out a strand of your hair and drop it into a bowl of water. Tap the hair lightly and see if it sinks or floats.

If it Floats
The hair is healthy. There is no or little sun or processing damage.

If it Sinks
The hair is damaged and has become porous. Porous hair releases moisture easily, but also accepts colour better and allowed darker colour. Porous hair may be caused by excessive colouring or by a protein deficiency.

Springy
Pluck out a strand of hair. Hold one end of the hair between your thumb and finger. Use the other hand to run a thumbnail and finger quickly along the hair. The hair should spring into curls.
Pull the hair taut for a few second and release. See if it springs back into the curls or not.

If it curls again
The hair is in good condition.

If it stays loose or barely curls again
The hair is damaged and dry.

Bulb
Pluck out a strand from the root. Check to see if the root of the hair has a bulb

Yes Bulb
The hair is healthy

No or Little Bulb
The hair follicle isn't healthy. This may cause hair thinning or balding.

Tug It
Pluck out a hair. Hold one end in each hand and give it a gentle tug.

If it Snaps Immediately
The hair is lacking moisture.

If it Stretches 'Like Gum'
The hair needs protein.

Your conditioner made the world of difference for my hair. It stopped falling out and is more manageable with a much softer curl.
