Test of Time

A Parent's Job Description

PenPress
I am a parent of the 21st century,
In my testimony there is no perjury.
This era offers endless possibility,
With ridiculously more responsibility.
Everywhere I can smell conspiracy,
In nothing do I see transparency.
I am supposed to get kids educated,
That process is dangerously complicated.
Without extracurricular activities,
There's no applying to universities.
Can the society imagine,
How I have become a machine?
Juggling between children,
Oh! I am so anxiety stricken.
Going to Piano lesson,
Attending Karate session,
Swimming class or Ballet lesson,
Oh God! I am only one person.
It is so hard to make time,
To get up I have to use a chime.
There are so many things to worry,
Not left with time to feel sorry.

Library is no longer an option,
Children want lifelong recreation.
My worries constantly deepen,
When they find the Arcade heaven.
Sega, Play Station, Game Cube,
X-Box, iPod or Rubik's Cube,
Children wish all of these they had,
I also don't want them to feel bad.
But only on this, kids have an accord,
Do they know what I can afford?
All characters, fiction and non-fiction,
Have against me a conviction,
They thrive on children's addiction,
Causing the lack of ambition.
Superheroes only fight the mob,
And will never get them job!
SpongeBob cannot be the helper,
If my children are to prosper.
I will either make it or break it,
I'm stuck in this pulpit.
If I take the entertainment away,
Drug dealers can have them sway.
Have a plan for close observation,
Hid camera for Nanny's every motion!

Schools are getting competitive,
Selection is more comprehensive.
If children are to get selected,
The resume has to be perfected.
At this point I have to surrender,
Will send them to Prep Center.
Higher education is now a commodity,
No money - no degree - such a pity!
So, where do I put the money?
Life has become an amazing journey!
Do I choose Forex or Roth IRA?
Or do I sign up for UGTMA?
529 (A) plan seems good,
Maybe it'll all depend on my mood!
Investing in good mutual fund,
Will have to wait till tax refund.
Yes, I direly need money to retire,
My life is such a satire!
I regularly pay my bills,
For headache I take pills.
Have to focus on my career,
Oh! Plan to get also a veneer.
I forget everything in a short-time,
My computer has memory big time!
I have become a quick learner,
My own life stays on the back burner.

Your words reflect well, the position that many Parents are in today! And it's so hard to teach our children and grandchildren the right values with so much outside interference these days. I really liked this poem and the meanings behind it ......Good job, Thank you +*+*+*
