Testing Your Strength in the Lord

Kristie Monroe
I am always quick to point out to others that the Lord will never give us more than we can handle. I really do believe it is true and for the most part I do my best to live by that motto. I also know that God has a plan for each one of us and that He wants what is best for his children. I always tell my family and friends that God will only shut a door when he is ready to open another one. These are brave words coming from someone who has no worries in their life. My children are healthy, my family is together, my bills are paid and there is food in the fridge.

This past week really made me put my money where my mouth is. Rumor was circulating around my husband's workplace that people were being let go. These are tough times and many have felt the crunch of the economy and have experienced a layoff. We were upset that my husband would more than likely be laid off because his job provides our insurance. We panicked, we stressed out, we wrung our hands together and we formulated alternate plans of action in the event he would be let go. In the end, my husband was not laid off so our anxiety was in vain.

After calming down I realized I had made a huge miscalculation when assessing who provided for our family. I was giving my husband's employer way too much credit for providing for our needs. His employer actually does not provide us with anything. God provides and meets our needs. God and God alone is responsible for all the benefits our family enjoys. By being worried, I was insulting my Lord who loves me and who always does what is best for me. I should have been confident knowing that if God closed the door on my husband's job, he would open another door for us. Think of it like a celestial Make a Deal, only in God's version you are always better off picking the door he is offering you.

Lord, I am sorry I took your wisdom for granted. I know that with a Father like you, I have no need to worry about my future. You will always provide what is best for me. Lord, I pray that you will give me wisdom as you did Solomon so that I may fully comprehend your will. Thank you for your goodness.

Really nicely done and very encouraging. We have been facing similar "scares". THis helped me put it back into perspective and into God's capable hands.

Amen. Thanks for sharing your story. It is an inspiration and a great reminder that God is the true provider.
