Texas Busted by Appeals Court: Polygamist Children Should Not Have Been Taken - My Opinion

Polygamists Are Still Americans with Rights

A Texas appeals court has just ruled and announced that the State of Texas had no right to seize hundreds of children from the Yearning for Zion polygamist ranch. An earlier news accounting of the so-called underage mothers involved showed that over half of those being held against their will were legally adults, with one so-called underage mother in State custody being 27-years old. Click here to read the MSNBC news article about this Texas appeals court ruling.

The Supreme Court ruling basically claims that Texas can not take children out of homes without evidence that they should be taken out of their homes.

I have been internally furious at the Texas government system since the first day that the American homes on that ranch were violated. The whole idea that any American government organization can rip children away from their homes and into a traumatic experience based upon an anonymous unverified phone call is outrageous.

And, as we all know, this would not have happened to any of these American citizens if they had chosen a different religion to follow. The State of Texas never had to remove those hundreds of polygamist children from their known homes, they could have been investigated right where they were eating, sleeping, and going to school. I am mad at the State of Texas, and with this current Texas appeals court decision now agreeing with me, I don't care who knows how mad I am..

Polygamist children have the right to be living within their family unit just the same as not polygamist children have. Polygamist mothers have the right to care for their children within that family unit, just as not polygamist mothers have. Polygamist mothers have the right not to have the father of their children living under their roof, just as all single and divorced not polygamist mothers have.

Polygamist mothers do not drink, smoke, or do drugs the way that many not polygamist mothers do. Polygamist children eat homegrown healthy foods cooked from scratch instead of the junk food that many not polygamist mothers choose to feed their children. Polygamist children are expected to help around the home with family chores just the same way as some not polygamist children are expected to do.

I may not agree with the polygamy lifestyle for myself, I certainly do not approve of any sexual misconduct with a minor, but I fail to see how the polygamist children's lifestyle was more harmful than the not polygamist children who are raised in gangs, raised selling drugs for their parents, raised without proper food or medical services available, and those raised within abusive homes.

My heart has gone out to the polygamist children and polygamist mothers who have had to suffer through this outrageous attack from the Texas government. What all Americans should realize is that while we support putting whole communities into custody over the actions of one or two bad guys within the community, that our homes may be the next to be raided.
