Texas Gulf Coast Camping

The only thing that can be more relaxing than visiting the beach is camping on it The Texas coast line offers great locations to camp on the Gulf of Mexico. I have listed some good camping resources for the Texas Gulf Coast at the end of the article.

One of the first things about camping on the Gulf coast is that many of the RV camp sites have easy beach access. They may not always have a beach view though. This is due to the dunes that usually separate the beach from the camping areas. This is to help with erosion and so you don't get sandblasted in a storm. However, they have rustic camp sites on the beach itself in many locations. There is just about any kind of camping on the beach from remote beach sites, to paved RV paradises. Be sure to verify that the parks are currently open. In the Galveston area, some are still closed due to the hurricane damage.

Texas State Parks

Texas has a number of nice beach front state parks. The Texas state parks also offer free fishing inside the boundaries of the park. You have to purchase a state park pass to get into the park. Mustang Island and Goose Island are just a few of the options. Overall, the Texas state parks have sites that range from backpacking to full hookup RV sites. Sea Rim State Park has some primitive private platform campsites in the marsh areas that you need to boat to.

Padre Island National Seashore

Texas is home to the Padre Island National Seashore. Here is one of the many places you can camp right on the beach. They don't take reservations for the five different camping areas, but there is almost always a site available because you can camp along the beach unless it is closed due to a high tide. There is an annual park pass you need to purchase. There is over 60 miles of beach that you can drive on and explore.

Private Campgrounds full of amenities

Besides state and national parks, there are a lot of private campgrounds where you can camp in Texas. These often offer the most amenities like pools, playgrounds, game rooms, laundry and much more. You can also use discounts like Goodsams, AAA or other camping discounts at these locations. They often tend to be a bit more expensive because of the amenities.

No matter what your camping style is, the Texas Gulf Coast has the right camp site for you. From sleeping on a rustic island to watching TV your plush motorhome, fifthwheel or other RV you can find what you want.
