The Spring Westfield Mustangs had a breakout season in 2005. A season that some critics claiming that they were the benefactors of a talented senior class and that their success was just an aberration and would not be sustained. Many doubted that Spring Westfield could remain a top program. In response to this criticism, the Mustangs went on to post a 13-1 record in the '06 campaign proving that their program was one of the states emerging programs. The only thing that has escaped The Mustangs so far is consistent playoff success. This year, the Mustangs intend to continue their winning ways a make a deeper move into the postseason.

One concern for the Spring Westfield Mustangs heading in the 2007 season will be at quarterback. A three way battle for the position emerged in the spring and the staff has yet to settle on a starter. Whoever does get the call to lead the offense will be provided significant support from senior tailback Bo Walker who, after showcasing considerable talent while sharing carries last year, looks to make an impact as the feature back. Leading the way for Walker will be the Mustangs talented offensive line consisting of three Division 1 prospects in Seniors Brenel Myers, Erik McNeil and Nate Golden.

The Mustangs defense should be solid, as it returns some of the fastest and toughest players in the state. Senior defensive tackles Jonathan Mathis and Nick Nwoko will provide the size and strength upfront, while senior defensive end Christian Ridge will showcase his all around athletic ability as he provides an effective rush from the edge. The more than capable defensive line will be backed by one of the nations quickest and most ball hawking of linebacking units, which features senior Herman Mitchell as the leader. Herman is joined by Seniors Tolu Akindele and Shiloh Hickman who bring all-state talent. The Mustang's secondary should be solid all year as it returns three starters from the previous year, all of whom are now senior and are Division 1 prospects as well.

This year should be one of consistent success for the Mustangs. The only unknown that remains to be settled is the quarterback situation. If Spring Westfield is able to find someone who can provided consistency at that position, the offense should be fine as Walker will keep the chains moving and provide a steady attack on the ground. An effective offense coupled with a quick and touch defense, should allow the Mustangs to make a move into the post season.
