Texas Hosts Their Version of Redneck Games

Yes,you heard right,Redneck Games.Originally started in Georgia over a decade ago by creator Mac Davis, Redneck Games was intended to be basically a joke. Davis says, " In 1996 Atlanta was going to host the Olympics and a lot of jokes were being made about Rednecks hosting the Olympics. So I figured,if that's what people expect let's give it to them!"The first year they only expected about 500 people to show up and ended up near 5,000 instead and after that it became a annual event. This year Texas made their own version of the popular Redneck Games.

The Redneck Games has just about everything that you can think of except, normality. The schedule of events range from drunken mattress throwing to bobbing for pigs feet to mud pit belly flopping to good ol' seed spitting contest. This list of outrageous events including BB Q's,live music, arts and crafts and fireworks which brought over 6,000 attendees to Texas this year

.All in all the Redneck Games were designed for everyone involved to have a silly, fun time but, when the events ended on Sunday there were more than 54 arrests made and several citations, ranging from speeding to public intoxication.

Sheriff Brownlow of the Henderson County Sheriff's Department said "considering the number of hours that law officers had to spend out there it was very costly to the city".There were actually several rules set in motion for the Redneck Game attendees such as,no camp fires,no glass containers and a noise advisory. Also,Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission advised participants that there was to be no underage drinking allowed and that they would be monitoring closely.

The event organizer Oscar Still could face misdemeanor charges for not having a permit which carries a $1,000 fine and 90 days in jail,Oscar has been unreachable since the events ended.Perhaps he's face down in one of the mud pits or under a mattress somewhere, whatever the case he's making matters worse by not returning the Sheriff's Department phone calls.

A Hicktown Gone Wild! ,well only for a few days because I guarantee that is probably more than enough time to act crazy enough to last through to next year and believe the loyal participants will return.
