The locals and volunteers who orchestrate the event call it "The Greatest Event of the Year." Close to 100 boats compete each year in the 3-day mega event that's known just as much for its' fun parties and family fun along with the difficult sailing course. The sailors look forward each year to Texoma's unpredictable waters, which makes the course very challenging even for the most experienced sailors.
The event is held in Denison, Texas and shows the city at its' best. All of the volunteers, sponsors and locals are able to give back to the community and at the same time share a weekend of family fun. All of the sponsors kick off the weekend together in The Arnold Perkins Chaos Cup. The next two days are complete of sailing competitions with hundreds of sailors and crew members from as far away as Florida and Oregon coming to compete, but at the same time, they are able to help raise money for the local charity every year.
Several events are held in addition to the sailing races with a pizza party for the sailors during registration, an evening of dining and dancing for sailors at The Point restaurant along with entertainment by the local band Rocky & The Bullwinkles. Sponsors also get into the action, when they are treated to a toast to Texoma Sunset Cruise on Saturday afternoon. Everyone enjoys a great evening of dining and dancing to the sounds of Neil Davies at Highport Marina under the big tent. Sponsors donate all of the food and beverages for the entire weekend festivities.
The Lakefest Regatta helps the special needs children in the Texoma area, but also, bring thousands of people from near and far to enjoy the great food, parties and groovy music. If you are looking for a great event to attend in mid-April, then you should look into attending The Texoma Lakefest Regatta in Denison, Texas to be apart of the great festivities and give back to the community at the same time.
