According to the World Health Organization, usually referred to as WHO, one child dies every 30 seconds because of malaria. Malaria is caused by parasites that are transmitted to humans by mosquitoes. The latest figures indicate that more than 240 million cases of malaria resulted in one million deaths in Africa. While malaria is preventable, nets are not available for all who need these.
People visiting areas that are considered to be malaria zones are not immune to this disease. WHO considers half of the world's population to be in danger of getting malaria. This reality may encourage more to donate by texting BEDNETS to 90999.
