Text Messaging and Teens

Technology has spread over the world and is continuously expanding every year. Cell phones are an important part of today's communication. Today, cell phones are equipped with cameras, speakers, Mp3 players, video, Internet access, and text messaging. Text messaging series serves as a very important role in communication. It makes it possible to tell someone something without opening your mouth. Most cell phone companies provide text messaging with their phones. Text messaging is unsupervised and can be done very discretely. Some companies offer unlimited services. This causes excessive amounts of talking and text messaging.

This affects my peers and I by making the cell phone so easy and available to use. The cell phones cuts down study time for some students. These students have a new message or a missed call from their friends. This takes away important time out of the day from doing other activities such as homework, working out, reading, and other hobbies. Although text is used very often in the world of sell phone users, it does not't prove to be overall beneficial. Most high school students interact using cellular phones. Many carry them around during the school day and try to sneak text messaging in throughout class. Little do they know, a teacher can tell if a student is text messaging just by the time they spend staring straight down at their laps. The result of this is that the student will either get their cell phone taken away and a call home, or some type of detention. Most schools do not permit cell phones to be used or seen. They are a distraction for students during the school day when the main purpose is education. Even though they may be good for calling home at the end of the school day for a ride home, it is not essential to carry them around throughout the day.

Cell phones are very popular and there are always newer and better ones coming out. Just like buying the newest shoes or clothes, teenagers like to stay "in" with the fast growing cellular world. The cellular world may be moving just a little too fast, especially for students in search for their education. Students, who are supposed to be expanding their knowledge and preparing for the future academically, are spending a lot of time staring at screens. Because of the rise in cell phone popularity, television and computer screens are not't the only ones they're staring at these days. Internet is a feature available in cell phones. One can surf the web on a park bench, in the grocery store, or even in a car. Microsoft Word has even been put into cell phones that have slide out keypads. I believe the intentions were to improve our technical society but it seems that it is being over used and we are taking time out of every day life and putting it into cell phones.

When using text, it is hard to convey what tone the words have in the message. This does start problems among my peers that use text messaging. It is very hard to tell if someone is joking or serious. It is hard to know if it is the person you think it is replying to your message. There are also many of chain letters sent via text. You cannot block a text from incoming like you can block a call. This means that if text messaging costs for every outgoing and incoming text, then one does not't have control over the incoming text. This could lead to very high phone bills if the wrong person gets a hold of your number. High phone bills are a result to teen phone use. This leaves parents not too happy. Cell phones have caused many car accidents. Many teens crash while trying to text back a friend. The more our phones can do, the more we will use our phones. The more time spent using cell phones and text messaging, the less time we have to excel our minds and bodies through education and even physical activities. There will not be a time where phones are used just to talk. Cell phones are more harmful for my peers because we have not learned how to balance every aspect of our lives equally as adults. Even some adults can't do that. Every thing must be taken in moderation, even cell phones.
