Thank You Friend for Kicking

T. Ramaswamy
James is a man of great qualities and manners. His sense of cleanliness is of a high order. He is very systematic in his work and arrangement of facilities and articles at home. One day his friend Walter walks in. During the conversation covering many subjects he observes four pairs of shoes kept on a rack. Out of curiosity he asks James whether uses all of them.

James replies:
My dear friend. I impart a high degree of planning in my work. Even in respect of shoes I have a purpose. Each pair fulfils a purpose. The one on the extreme left is rarely used. It is used on ceremonial occasions like weddings. I keep it well polished. The next one is used while I travel by car to office. It travels along with me in the car and once I reach office the use is confined to the office building. The third one is for daily use. It is an all purpose one which I consider as casual wears. But the last one at extreme right is used exclusively for sports events when I have to wade through a milling crowd as in a football or cricket match.

You see the rough surface on the upper portion. When some one stamps/kicks me from behind or side, I say thank you. I say this because in the process of kicking the shoe, the polish from the other man's shoe is smeared on mine and thus I get free polishing service.

Walter: That is nice. I think of emulating your shoe management techniques with benefit.
