How wonderful that two people who met, and through YOUR strength, created the greatness we have come to know as Michelle Obama.
Although I have never met any member of the Robinson family. I am beyond enthusiastic about the prospect of seeing Michelle Obama set a tone for women (particularly those female American's whose blood is linked to slaves from Africa.)
I stood in my living room cheering as I saw this incredibly beautiful, posed and intelligent sistah, speak about her love for her children, family, husband and country. As she stood gesturing with her delicate hands, referring to her love of God and devotion to her children I could not help crying. Not simply because of the passion of her words. But knowing that I was able to receive the message on behalf of those strong women who have gone before me.
I applaud Mr. and Mrs. Robinson for raising a daughter in an environment that inspired her to want to give back. I salute Mr. Robinson for creating an image of a daddy's girl (something some of us only hear about.) I respectfully curtsy to the royalty that is Mrs. Robinson; who sat and proudly watched the rewards of the fruits of her labor, as Michelle talked of her brother being her mentor.
My hat goes off to Craig for showing gratitude and respect to his "little sister".
Michelle spoke of how she knew her dad was with her during that moment on stage. I embrace the notion that my mom was sitting with me as I watched Michelle - whose grace and decorum reminded of the attitude my mother aspired to and wished for us.
Thank you Mrs. Robinson for showing your daughter how to be a lady and giving her the necessary tools to raise two beautiful little girls by a standard that I'm sure you were taught as a child.
If it is possible for you to receive this message in the great beyond, thank you Mr. Robinson! Thank you for showing your daughter the integrity, love and kindness too many of us never see. Thank you for positioning her to seek a man who would be a dynamic father, leader and example to your grand-daughters of what to expect from a life mate. Thank you for loving your wife in a way that would set your daughter up for the success she can rightfully bask in today.
And lastly, thank you Mrs. Obama. It is beyond time that our daughters see the true description of a "lady" and aspire to the greatness too many of them are robbed of.
Thank you for letting us see a black woman love a black man with reckless abandon. Thank you for letting us hear you say those words (I love you) to your husband that so many have tossed aside. Thank you for sharing stories with us that let us know you're just another American family. And although you are much like the average family THANK GOD for blessing you so tremendously and loving us all enough to have allowed us the opportunity to see an example of a family; (deliciously brown) representing our nation and letting us know that the time for change has arrived.
