Thankful for the Many

April Higney
I started this quest with poetry,
a collaboration of words to inspire,
many to fill my own necessary void,
the substitution of words, passion and desire.
I have lost much of myself in this life I lead,
each an every one of you, a necessary place,
following words, art, music, and loving relationships,
in my heart I've needed to replace.
The core of me went beyond just words,
an artist deep within, a loss of color and substance,
needing it back, needing to step ahead,
to know the future can be brighter, I can take the steps, take a chance.
Comics give humor, to laugh through the day,
and read of loves' lasting, families with bonds so strong.
Other voices releasing much pain, the support of others in losses, and health,
and then there is my own needed to change, this life, time, who knows how long.
I've been told, I'm not worth a thing,
a burden, yet needed to carry on necessary daily routine,
a man lacking compassion, hurting every day with words,
one once loved, everything has faded, but I know in my heart, love, there is more it should mean.
Going on for far too long,
once said, I'll grant a second chance, make it or break it.
For a while a calm, turned into cords ripped from the telephone,
irresponsibility, ill words, at this point I'm not going to take it.
Why have I told you all this,
delved so far into my personal life and pain?
The answer is simple, you've all helped for the strength within me,
and maybe in these words, perhaps another in this placement could gain.
You have been the family I've needed,
when my own was so far away,
projecting humanity, emotions, creative writers, art with such heart,
bringing me back to me, as my mind reflects back to memories,
and looks to the future that holds the brighter day.
Faith, support, encouragement of friends,
the collaboration of a beautiful group with so much to give,
sparks passion, sparks dreams,
a beautiful life to live.
Aspiring actors, actresses,
a part of the select few,
they stumble, tumble, gemstones in the make,
emerging a precious jewel, much like my life and what I need to do.
Another emerges with so much to share,
music, writing, such visions to see,
intriguing, inspiring, a rippling effect,
looking back, looking ahead, I slowly step back into me.
So this quest is thankful,
though I must disappear for a while,
and hope that I'll be back soon enough,
the part of me that emerges with a truly happy smile.
