Thanks to The Teacher: End of the Year Teacher Gifts

Marie DiLonardo
Since the end of the school year is quickly approaching, many parents are looking for ways to say "thank you" to those teachers who have given so much. But, in this economy many of us don't have the extra cash to purchase what we feel are nice gifts...especially when we have several children in school. It truly is difficult to find gifts that demonstrate our real appreciation for under $10-15. For those of us with two, three or even four children in school this can translate into a rather large sum of money!

Here is an idea that is both affordable and well received. Why not have the class contribute toward "Dinner and a Movie" for the teacher to celebrate summer? Send a little note to each child's parents requesting a donation of $5 for the teacher. Apply all money received to the purchase of a dinner gift card and a movie gift card to use at a local theater. Of course, you do want to mention in the note to parents that participation is voluntary. You'll probably find, however, that most parents will want to participate because...where in the world can you purchase something for $5?

A class of 20 children will likely contribute at least $75. $50 for a dinner gift card and $25 for a movie gift card is a wonderful night out for the teacher and his or her spouse or guest! If there is additional money, adding a gift card to a local ice cream parlor for dessert is a nice touch, or a few lottery tickets also makes it fun.

Be sure to enclose the gift cards in a "Thank You" card or similar card of appreciation and include names of all students and families who participate!
