Thanksgiving Craft Ideas: Easy "Give Thanks" Fabric and Wood Door Wreath

A quality door wreath is a great way to show off your festive style. However, many pre-made styles can get quite expensive. This easy fabric and wood door wreath is perfect for Thanksgiving and uses up those pesky fabric scraps you have around the house.

For this project, you will need:

- One Styrofoam wreath mold (available at local craft supply stores)

- Scissors

- Fabric scraps in fall colors such as red, brown, gold, etc.

- Wooden letters spelling "Give Thanks" (available at local craft supply stores)

- Medium grit sandpaper

- Soft cloth or tack cloth

- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White

- Krylon Glitter Blast Spray in Orange Burst

- Krylon Glitter Blast Clear Sealer

- Hot glue gun with glue sticks

- Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth

To keep the mess from the project to a minimum, cover the area in which you will be crafting the wreath with sheets of old newspaper and/or a large sized drop cloth. Cut the fabric into strips that are 1/2 inch wide. Make sure they are long enough to wrap around the Styrofoam wreath mold, tie in a knot, and still have 1/2 inch of overhang on each end.

One at a time, wrap the strips around the wreath mold and tie in a knot. Do this until the entire wreath mold is completely covered in strips. Use one color of fabric or vary your colors in autumn themed shades, as desired.

Gently sand any rough edges on the wooden letters with medium grit sandpaper. Wipe away any grit or debris from the lettering with a tack cloth or other soft cloth. Prime each of the letters using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White.

Once the primer has dried, usually after a couple hours, it is time to glitter them. Spray each letter so that the front and sides only of the wood is covered with Krylon Glitter Blast Spray in Orange Burst. Add a second coat of glitter spray, if desired. Dry for three or four hours before coating each letter with Krylon Glitter Blast Clear Sealer. Let the wooden lettering dry overnight.

Heat up the hot glue gun. Apply a dab of glue to the back of each letter. Adhere the letters to spell "Give Thanks" on the wreath. Once the glue has completely cooled, hang your Thanksgiving wreath as desired!

TIP: Some craft stores sell wooden embellishments in the shape of pilgrim hats and/or turkeys. Feel free to paint and/or glitter these and hot glue them on as well.
