- Thank You Basket Craft - Pick up a small basket at your local craft supply store. You can find these for less than a dollar each. You will also need orange construction paper and a pumpkin stencil. Help your child trace about ten pumpkins onto the orange construction paper. Once you have traced them, use scissors to cut them out. On each pumpkin, help your child think of someone they are thankful for and write their name on the pumpkin. On the back of the pumpkin, write why they are thankful for that person. Once they have completed all their pumpkins, put them in the basket. This will remind the child that they have a lot to be thankful for. This Thanksgiving craft for kids can be even more fun and meaningful if you then deliver the pumpkins to each person whose name is on the front.
- Thanksgiving Poem - A Thanksgiving poem can be especially fun if you get the entire family involved. Have each member of the family come up with a line for the thanksgiving poem. Continue around to each family member until you have a complete poem. Some poems can be serious, while others may turn out quite comical, especially if you have young children. Creating a Thanksgiving poem with your kids is a great way to spend time with them during the Thanksgiving season.
- Family Turkey Craft - To make a family turkey, you start by getting a piece of poster board. You can use any color you like. Then, draw a body of a turkey on the poster board, but don't put any tail feathers. Have each member of the family dip their hands in paint, and create feathers by placing their handprints overlapping each other. This is a great craft to bring the whole family together, and kids will love getting messy with the paint.
No matter what Thanksgiving crafts and activities for kids you choose to do, be sure to talk about what Thanksgiving means to you and your family. Kids will learn and have fun at the same time.
