Thanksgiving Crafts: Edible Turkey Centerpiece

Easy Kid Friendly Thanksgiving Craft

Lynda Altman
Kids can make this healthy, edible Thanksgiving turkey centerpiece. It is a wonderful addition to any table, especially if you are expecting a large number of kids. This turkey craft can go on the main table, or it can be used as a centerpiece for a crudités table where kids can help themselves.

Materials:

2 Melons; one for cutting and one for the body of the turkey.

1 to 2 packages of wooden skewers.

Assorted fruit for skewers.

Assorted vegetables for skewers.

1 pear shaped sweet potato for a head

1 strawberry.

1 small box of raisins.

1 red pepper.

Toothpicks.

Greens.

Assembly

Set the melon on a decorative platter. Use assorted fruit and vegetable pieces to create skewers, leaving a space at the pointed end of the skewer so that it can be inserted into the melon. Use a skewer to attach the potato to one end of the melon for a head, narrow side points to the floor. Attach 2 raisins to the potato for eyes. Toothpicks work well for this. Arrange skewers in an attractive manner on the other end of the body. Cut a strawberry in half and place each half at the front of the melon for feet.

Complete the centerpiece with kale or other dark leafy greens as a garnish for the platter. A strip of red pepper can be attached to the potato for a waddle. Set out onto a table with yogurt dip for healthy snacking.
