Thanksgiving Crafts: Glittered Copper Napkin Rings

Landra Lynn Jacobs
If you are looking for a simple and inexpensive way to dress up your Thanksgiving table, these glittered copper napkin rings are sure to delight! This project only takes a couple hours to create, including drying time, making it wonderfully simple.

For this project, you will need (per napkin ring):

- One unfinished wooden napkin ring (available at craft supply stores)
- Medium or fine grit sandpaper
- Tack cloth or other style soft cloth
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Copper Foil
- Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
- Copper colored glitter in any size grain
- Elmer's glue
- Artist's paintbrush
- Cloth napkin in a coordinating color
- Newspaper and/or a drop cloth

To keep your workspace neat and tidy during this project, cover it with several sheets of old newspaper and/or a large sized drop cloth. Carefully sand all outside and inside areas of the unfinished wooden napkin ring with medium or fine grit sandpaper sheets. Wipe down the outside of the ring with a tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth to remove grit.

Spray both the inside and the outside of the napkin ring with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Let the ring dry for a half an hour. Paint the ring with three to four coats of Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Copper Foil. Keep adding coats of copper paint until you reach your desired shade. Allow the copper paint to set to dry for a few hours.

Use an artist's paintbrush to coat the outside layer of the painted napkin ring with a light layer of Elmer's glue. Very liberally sprinkle the copper colored glitter onto the glue. Shake off the excess glitter. Continue to fill in all areas of the napkin ring with a thick layer of copper glitter. Let the glue dry completely.

Spray the napkin ring with a thick coat of Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray. (This will help the glitter last longer on the napkin ring.) Let the spray dry completely. Insert a cloth napkin in a coordinating color and enjoy.

TIP: This project can be altered for other holidays. Consider using red paint and red glitter or green paint and green glitter for Christmas. For winter, consider using Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Silver Foil and silver colored glitter. This project is simple enough to be customized for any type of table, so use your imagination to alter the design to suit your needs.
