Thanksgiving Crafts for Preschool and Toddlers

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and if you are already thinking of ways you can get your pre-schooler in the mood for Thanksgiving, here are some ideas that can help you and your pre-schooler get into the festive mood.

When you engage in activities with your pre-schooler, you help them get into the spirit of Thanksgiving and you also get to enjoy precious moments with your kids. In this way, both of you get into the thankful spirit and bond at the same time.

One of the activities you can do with your pre-schooler is to make Thanksgiving placemats. If you have guests over, you can use these placemats and your kids will certainly love the opportunity to showcase their decorative abilities. You'll need fall-colored construction papers, clear contact paper, glue that's non-toxic and safe for the kids, and Thanksgiving stickers and decorations.

Have your pre-schooler decorate the construction paper with the Thanksgiving decorations and glue it to the construction paper using non toxic glue. Once the glue is dry, use the clear contact paper to laminate the placemat and protect the designs. Have your pre schooler choose which guest gets a certain placemat and have them explain why they chose those certain decorations.

Another activity you can have your pre-schooler do for Thanksgiving is to create a turkey that represents thankfulness. Your pre-schooler will need brown construction paper cut and shaped into that of a turkey, fall colored construction paper that will act as feathers, non toxic markers and glue, eyes, beak (which could be made out of construction paper), and a poster board that comes in fall colors to paste everything in.

Assembling the thankful turkey is very easy. On the construction paper that will be the turkey's feathers, have your pre-schooler write something which he or she is thankful for. Then, glue the turkey's body on the poster board, then help your pre-schooler glue the feathers and the eyes and the beak together.

Other activities that your pre-schooler can engage in are you telling your pre-schooler what the season is all about, what the turkey symbolizes, and how the season affects our lives. Whatever activity you decide to engage in with your pre-schooler, you should aim for activities you can do together and you can share in. Also, make sure that you spend Thanksgiving together with your entire family so that the season will be very memorable for you and the entire family.
