One of the things that makes Thanksgiving such a fun time of year is the ability to dress up your dining table. However, just because you are hosting a holiday does not mean you cannot have a bit of fun in your décor! These adorable Thankful Napkin Rings only take a few supplies from your scrapbook arsenal but will definitely wow your guests.
For this project, you will need (per napkin ring holder):
- One wooden napkin ring (available at local craft supply stores)
- Medium or fine grit sandpaper
- Tack cloth or other soft cloth
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in any color of your choice
- Chipboard letters in a style and coordinating color of your choice
- Hot glue gun
- Cloth napkin to match
- Newspaper and/or a large sized drop cloth
To begin, make sure the area in which you will be crafting this napkin rings is covered with newspaper and/or a large sized drop cloth. This will protect it from any paints or glues used within the project. Next, give the napkin ring a gentle smoothing with a sheet of medium and/or fine grit sandpaper. Pay extra attention to any natural rough areas within the wood. This usually will not take a lot of sanding or pressure.
Prime the entire outside and inside of the wooden napkin ring with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Let the primed ring dry completely before painting it using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in any color of your choice. Add a second coat of the paint, if the wood color or primer is still showing through. Let the ring set overnight.
Heat up the hot glue gun. With the chipboard letters, spell out the word "Thankful". Use small dabs of hot glue to attach the letters to the painted napkin ring. Once the glue has completely cooled, insert a matching cloth napkin. Repeat this process for as many napkin rings as you intend to create.
Note: One of the best things about this project is that it incorporates wooden napkin rings. These rings can either be left as is with the chipboard lettering for next year or redecorated. To add a new design, carefully peel off the lettering and glue. Sand down the top layer of paint. Prime and paint again for a whole new year of Thanksgiving table fun!
