Thanksgiving Day Dinner Gifts

Thanksgiving is a great occasion for get togethers. People often get invited to eat at someone else's home on Thanksgiving day. If you are like me you never want to go anywhere empty handed, but you may not know exactly what to bring. If you haven't been assigned a specific dish choosing something edible can be tricky. There are many other ways you can show your appreciation without bringing food.

Candles are an excellent gift to bring for your Thanksgiving dinner host or hostess. They create ambiance and can be used long after Thanksgiving day is over. Seasonally, candles are sold in scents that are appropriate for the occasion. You can often find pumpkin pie scented candles, apple pie scented candles and other seasonal scents people enjoy. Votive and candle holders to go with the candles can be purchased in a seasonal motif as well.

Decorative items for the Thanksgiving table are another excellent gift to bring along to your Thanksgiving meal. You can purchase a themed Thanksgiving centerpiece with a turkey or pilgrim on it or you can buy something floral. Floral centerpieces are great, because the host can enjoy the centerpiece for several days after. Additionally, you can bring a beautiful fresh floral bouquet. You can never go wrong with fresh flowers.

Edible items, or items that you consume, as I said before can be tricky to bring to a Thanksgiving gathering. However, if bringing food is your thing it can be done without spoiling your hosts menu. If you like bringing something sweet on Thanksgiving you can offer your host chocolates or candy. That way guest will still have room for the dessert that is served even if they indulge in a chocolate or two. Wine is another acceptable gift that can be consumed. Wine is typically welcomed, because people never mind serving more than one wine or saving a bottle for another occasion. You may also consider bringing a fruit basket, popcorn tin or cookie tray. All of these give the host the option to either serve them on Thanksgiving or save them for later.

When you are invited to Thanksgiving dinner it is important to consider your host or hostesses feelings before selecting a gift. Consult with them prior to Thanksgiving day, inquire with them about their needs. If they tell you to just show up, which is common response, then use the previously mentioned suggestions to select an appropriate gift.

Nicely done. So many people have to be reminded that it IS appropriate to bring the hosts a gift. Not just for Thanksgiving, but any time they are invited for dinner!
