Thanksgiving Day Games for Families and Friends

Host Your Own Thanksgiving Trivia Game or Design a Thanksgiving Scavenger Hunt

So you want to play some great Thanksgiving Day Games? Start with your standard board game fare: Monopoly, Balderdash, and Scattergories are always fun, but if you want to get creative, you can design your own Thanksgiving kids games.

First, check out some Thanksgiving Trivia questions. Trivia games can easily be adapted into games for thanksgiving. Once you have a list of questions and their answers, cut each of the questions into a separate strip and place all of the questions in a large bowl. Choose a host for your trivia game and divide the family into teams. Each team gets one question and earns a point if they answer correctly. Wrong answers give the other team a chance to answer. Whoever gets the answer right gets the next question. If no one gets it, the team who didn't get the question read to them gets the new question. Choose a certain number of points that play must reach.

Design a Thanksgiving Scavenger Hunt. Whether you limit this to items within your house and yard, or expand the trivia hunt throughout your neighborhood, is up to you and to the resources at your disposal. I.e. Do you have enough cars to transport your teams around the town? Find unusual items that teams must either procure and bring back to you, or do a high-tech hunt by requiring teams to take digital photographs of certain items and places. This can be great fun for teams of all ages.

Have fun making some Thanksgiving Crafts. These aren't quite games, but they are still a great way to spend the time.

Whether you play a board game or make up your own game, make sure you turn off the television, hide the game controllers, and spend some quality time with your family this Thanksgiving season. Happy holidays!
