Thanksgiving Day Poems from a Chica

Poems to Count All Your Blessings and Some Silly Ones Too

Laura Lo Duca
Much more

Thanksgiving day is so much more than we think

Thanksgiving is not about football

Not about all the huge parades in the city

Not about who is the best dressed

Not about all the fine china set unpon the table

Not about how much pumpkin pie we can eat

Thanksgiving day goes much deeper than that

Thanksgiving day is a gathering of loved ones

Is about hugs and kisses

Is about laughter

Is about sharing some memories and making new ones

Or perhaps making some peace and saying I am sorry

Most important counting all your blessings

Thanksgiving day is for me and for you

A day to cherish

A day to reflect

A day to let go

Now you see Thanksgiving day is so much more

2003

Thankgiving that year was a crazy one

Mother was in the hospital for surgery

Dad was the cook that day

He wanted no help from the kids or the grandmother

He wanted the perfect dinner

He woke bright and early that day

Used a hair dryer to thaw out the turkey

Stuffed the bird with whole sticks of butter and bread

Burnt the gravy

Dropped ashes from smoking in the veggies

Did not mash the potatoes

No pumpkin pie that year

Grandma would not stop complaing

Everyone was moody

There were just silence at the table

We all could not take it

We all needed some laughter

We all needed some nosie

So all the sudden

There was a rise in my big dupa

Then came the loud fart

Mouths dropped

Grandma ran away

The table shook from laughter

Best of all it was all caught on tape

Mother was in for a treat when she got home
