Easy Ways to Decorate Your Tables

You don't have to buy Thanksgiving decorations for your Thanksgiving Day tables. If you want your Thanksgiving Day spread to look extra festive this Thanksgiving, make some fun and creative holiday decorations to adorn them. You can make Thanksgiving Day table decorations that are far less expensive than store-bought holiday decorations. Best of all, you can personalize decorations to match your style and décor.

Reversible Fleece Thanksgiving Day Placemats

Fleece is wonderful material for making placemats, and a sewing machine isn't required for these practical and very easy Thanksgiving Day table protectors. Your tables will look exceptionally festive and ready for a banquet when adorned with these attractive placemats.

You don't need expensive craft project supplies to make these Thanksgiving table decorations. For each Thanksgiving placemat, you'll need two pieces of fleece material approximately sixteen by twenty inches in size, a pair of sharp fabric scissors, and straight pins for holding the pieces in place while creating the fringe.

Fabric stores usually offer dozens of patterns, many of which are seasonal. Consider buying two different types to create placemats with a different pattern on each side. When you get tired of one side you can switch to the other for a completely different look.

Make certain the two pieces of fleece are equal in size. A store-bought placemat makes a great pattern and is an easy way to ensure the pieces are precise in size and shape.

After you have two pieces of fleece equal in size, cut a 1 ½ inch square from each corner. Make sure the squares are also precise in size and shape.

Pin together the pieces of fabric, right side out, approximately two-inches inside the edges. Cut ¼ inch strips 1 ½ inches deep all the way around the perimeter.

With the pieces still pinned together, begin knotting opposite strips of fringe until the placemat is complete. Make enough of these decorative placemats to complete your Thanksgiving Day table.

Artificial Leaves and Flowers

Autumn leaves and flowers are a beautiful sight to behold, especially on Thanksgiving Day. Bring some of the beauty of autumn indoors by adorning your tables with pretty fall flowers and leaves.

You don't need the real thing to create pretty Thanksgiving Day tables. Buy attractive artificial flowers and sprigs of artificial leaves. Trim the stems or remove the blooms, and strategically place them around centerpieces or along the centers of the tables. They'll bring a lot of color and beauty to your Thanksgiving Day celebration.

Decorative Pumpkins and Gourds

Tiny pumpkins and gourds are perfect duplicates of the much larger varieties of squash, and they make lovely Thanksgiving Day table decorations. Miniature gourds are natural works of art with amazing colors and patterns, and miniature pumpkins are classic symbols of autumn.

Decorate your Thanksgiving Day tables by randomly placing colorful gourds and miniature pumpkins along the centers, or arrange them in baskets for simple but attractive centerpieces.

Decorate miniature pumpkins and gourds by spraying them with adhesive and sprinkling them with a little fine, iridescent white glitter. Your Thanksgiving Day tables will look lovely and exceptionally festive when adorned with frosted pumpkins, gourds, and other colorful decorations.

I love your ideas! Thanks for sharing them. I am going to try spraying miniature pumpkins and then add the glitter.

Great, affordable ideas as always! As an aside, anyone fortunate enough to live amongst autumn splendor, if you have friends or relatives living "out west", I'll bet they'd be thrilled to receive an envelope full of colorful leaves! (A girlfriend does this for me every year and makes my month!)
