The Late Harvest Ball at Gadsby's Tavern in Alexandria is being held this year on Saturday, November 17, from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM. This yearly event has been an end-of-harvest tradition in the area since the 18th century. The ball itself is in the style of the 1770's and takes place in the tavern's historic ballroom where George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and the Marquis de Lafayette used to dance. Attendees are encouraged to wear period costume, but semi-formal attire is just fine. There's a cash bar, gaming, and a dessert collation (that's a light meal). Live music will be performed, and guests will celebrate with a variety of English country dances.

Location: 134 N. Royal Street, Alexandria, VA 22314

Admission Fee: $45.00 per adult and $10.00 per child (ages 13 to 17). Reservations are required.

It looks like the only parade in the area this year is the Reston Town Center Thanksgiving Parade on Friday, November 23, but it's a good one! The parade starts at 11:00 AM, and events last all day until after the tree is lit at 6:00 PM. The parade on Market Street features several floats, Santa and Mrs. Claus, Macy's style balloons, bands and musical groups, dancers, and antique cars. Some other events being held throughout the day include carriage rides, visits with Santa, and the day culminates with a tree lighting ceremony and a sing-along of holiday music.

Location: Reston Town Center, located at the intersection of Reston Parkway and New Dominion Parkway in Reston.
