Thanksgiving Guide for 2011

Kayla McClure

Thanksgiving is a holiday to be thankful for everything we have in life. We shouldn't wait until the holiday to express how thankful are in life. Life is too precious. Thanksgiving is a day for thanks. Holidays are a wonderful time to spend with family and friends.

Are you planning a get-together this year? Or are you planning to visit family and friends? A survival guide is what you need for those irritable family moments. It won't be easy, but surviving them is possible.

Be thankful. Saying thank you for the littlest things will mean the world to them. Being thankful is more than just saying thanks. It is showing them how much you appreciate them.

Do not eat too much. Eating too much will cause an upset stomach. An upset stomach doesn't make for good company.

Spend time with friends and family. Family and friends are important. Do not take any of them for granted. Spend quality time with those you care for and love the most in life. You should make time with them. Do not let any time go to waste.

Manage your expectations. Life isn't perfect. No one is. The holidays are not a time to have anything perfect. Do not expect too much from yourself or anyone else. Expectations should be very low. Perfection simply does not exist.

Let others lend a helping hand. Help is hard to find these days. If help is offered, take it. You don't know when it will be offered again. Assistance is needed for any family function.

Respect differences of others. Everyone has their own opinions, and we may not always agree with them. Respect is earned, not given. It works both ways.

Stay calm. Flying off the handle when family and friends become a real pain in the butt will not solve anything. It will only make things worse. Being patient is a big part of being calm during those moments of dread.

It is easy to let life get in the way of what's really important to us - family and friends. We get so wrapped up in what's going on that we take things for granted. Do not let Thanksgiving be the only time we are truly thankful for the things in our lives.

Enjoy their company and Happy Thanksgiving.
