Thanksgiving lesson plans for preschoolers

Preschoolers are full of imagination and creativity. Teachers are often looking for lesson plans for their students. Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful, and these lesson plans will help teach the young ones about being thankful and what it actually means. Children love to make things, so these are ideal for any age group.

Here are some creative lesson plans to have in your classroom.

Handprint turkeys

Handprint turkeys are cute and are very easy to make. Brown construction paper, scissors and markers are all you need to create these beautiful creations. The handprint will be the body and feathers of the turkey. The children can decorate them with markers or crayons.

Placemats

Placemats can be used throughout the year. These can teach children the history of Thanksgiving and the meaning behind the holiday. Teachers can have these placemats laminated to prolong their use. Preschoolers can make these colorful and full of fall images related to the holiday.

Headbands

The headband lesson plan can be used to teach preschoolers about the holiday. Preschoolers can use their handprints as the feathers. This will help the process of making the headband much easier for the students. These headbands can resemble Indians and chiefs. Headbands can bring to life the history of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Coloring pages

Coloring pages can be found on the Internet. There are so many pages and sites to find exactly what fits your classroom needs. Turkeys and Indians are very common images found during the holiday season. Children love to decorate and color. You could have the school's art teacher create a few coloring pages for your classroom. These pages can be copied to provide everyone with coloring pages.

Adult supervision is required for any of these crafts and lesson plans. Glue sticks, construction paper and scissors are a must for any of these lessons. Teachers can customize these plans to fit the needs of their students. There are many options for these plans. These lesson plans need to be fun and creative for these young minds. They will enjoy each project.

Teachers need to supervise while the children are creating each project. Scissors are a dangerous instrument and students cannot be left alone while using them. Accidents can happen. Supervision is needed to prevent fewer accidents, and children should never be left unattended for any reason.
