Thanksgiving with Me

Even Though We're Dsyfunctional, We're Still Considered "family

Onemargaret
Thanksgiving with me is sometimes filled with memories of past seasons.

I remember several years ago, before my favorite aunt, Margaret, died.

The world today makes me see my true mistakes and why I behaved so badly and the reason.

This Thanksgiving poem is meant to somehow ease my mind and my soul

And, maybe help me understand why so many of my family's younger generation

Just refuses to unite and accept all family members as true equals and stop being so cold.

Growing up in a small town in Virginia, I wasn't always the popular person around

But, I always loved my family and tried hard to stay in touch and to get along

Even when I sometimes felt isolated and my feelings were hurt, at times I felt like the stranger in town.

Aunt Margaret, Uncle Eddie, Uncle Cornelius, and others used to always make time for me and mine.

Now, that they're all gone, I can't seem to find the same kind and caring faces.

This Thanksgiving poem is only met to inform so I can relieve myself of any remaining bind.

I miss the caring, old folks, who used to always take the time to call or just stop by.

Or the times when I used to pack up my belongings and visit every other weekend.

Even though past relationships are somewhat better, I still remain a true fighter with my head always held high.

My parents and all four grandparents are gone, so many aunts and uncles, and my brothers and sister live in different areas. I really miss the days when we were all together. Now, we just go out for Thanksgiving dinner, and while it's good, and fun, it isn't the same.

Beautiful! I know just how you feel, as my family has been dwindling in past years as well.

I really enjoyed this. I feel that way sometimes about my grandparents and great aunt. I wish they could be around to celebrate Thanksgiving with me.

It's funny, when I was a kid, I always wished we could just stay home for Thanksgiving rather than having to go and visit so many family members. Now that home is pretty much my only option, how I long for the opportunity to spend Thanksgiving visiting with family.

Memories are wonderful, loss is inevitable, Beautiful.
